Dorina Basarab is a dhampir - half-human and half vampire. She manages to keep control of the rages and seeing that most dhampirs live short lives she is doing well. So far she has managed to stay sane by taking out her anger on the demons and vampires that deserve being killed. Although who knows ifthat will be enough to keep her calm now that her friend Claire has gone missing.

Trying to find her missing friend is taking up alot of her time and the last thing Dory needs is for her father to come back into her life. Her uncle Dracula has escaped from prison and daddy dearest wants Dory to capture him again. Set up to work with a tasty looking vampire, Dory who usually works alone, may have some trouble getting along with her new partner. Afterall vampires and dhampirs are not exactly friends.

Midnight's Daughter is the first book in a new series from author Karen Chance. Dory faces her past and goes up against the only thing on Earth that really scares her in this debut. With fae, mages and other paranormal creatures all making an appearance this book is packed with magic. Detailed, gripping and fast this new edition to the Urban fantasy genre is on par with Kim Harrison and Kelly Armstrong.

However on saying that this one didn't leave me jumping for joy. Something didn't click for me and even though I could read the potenial and see how good this was, it just didn't blow me away. I will of course be looking out for the sequel and I am definitely going to go back and look at the Cassandra Palmer books. This is from one of the best writers in this genre but her style and my tastes don't seem to get along.

In conclusion - If you are a fan you will definitely love this. Anyone who enjoys hardcore Paranormal Urban Fantasy should not pass up on this one.
