Melke is a wraith and she has the ability to walk unseen. Forced to steal a necklace to save her brothers life she is hunted down by the person she stole it from, Bastian sal Vere. Bastien wants his necklace back and explains to Melke that without it he can not break the curse that is destroying his family.

Melke has her brother back but he is hurt. Bastien asks her to regain the necklace in exchange for her brother to be healed. However it won't be easy to get the piece back. The salamanders have it and they are dangerous fire breathing creatures that live underground. Melke is ready to risk her life to save her brother but she wants to be certain that he is safe before she goes to steal back the necklace.

This was a strong fantasy with the story based mostly on the characters. It was full of romantic tension between the main characters and the storyline was very impressive. Anyone who likes the 'Study' series by Maria V. Snyder will enjoy this book. It won't knock your socks off but it is a nice pleasant read with a good plot that will keep you reading till the end.

I will have to look up this author. I hope she will be writing more.
